Overweight and obesity are epidemic in North America today with approximately two in three American adults being overweight and one in three considered clinically obese. About 25 million North Americans have type-2 diabetes, and almost 90 million have pre-diabetes. Even gout, a painful form of arthritis once known as “the rich man’s disease” now afflicts eight million Americans
- How is it that these food-related health epidemics continue to rise unabated?
- What is the state of public and individual awareness about the addictive power of processed foods? Is it that we don’t know or that we just don’t care?
- Is processed food the only culprit? What other factors/conditions/events could cause us to consume so many more calories than we need?
- What about the food industry – are they just giving the people what they want?
