HAT Forum - "Municipal Election - Let's Talk and then Act"

  • The 519, Rm 304 (always check screen in lobby) 519 Church Street Toronto, ON, M4Y 2C9 Canada (map)

'Let's talk about the upcoming municipal election' and then 'lets act by going to vote'  (Extra credits going to those who are or will take additional actions by helping a candidate or serving democracy in some other way.)

Questions:

  • Municipal elections - who cares? Do municipal elections matter?

  • What positions are on the ballot?

  • What are the key issues?

  • Who are the candidates?

    • Trustees

    • Councillors

    • Mayor

The proposer will provide sources for info about the School Board Trustees and the Councillors. We can have specific discussions about individual candidates as an illustration of thinking, talking and acting in any election context. What are the issues relevant to these levels of candidate?  What are the challenges we have in a city without explicit party affiliations?

The proposer will also plan to provide some bullet points and info sources on the main mayoral candidates. Not for just the two contenders considered likely to garner most of the votes but for the 3-5 out of the field of 20+ candidates. What role do these likely “also-rans” have to play in the greater election?
