HAT Forum - "Forced Adoptions - A National Shame"

  • The 519, Room 100 519 Church Street Toronto, ON, M4Y 2C9 Canada (map)

Mothers who were forced to give their babies up for adoption in the decades after the Second World War because they were not married are owed an apology by the federal government, says a new report by senators. The federal government helped fund the maternity homes where women were sent to conceal their pregnancies.

The Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs urged the federal government to apologize, shamed by the fact that it's been 5 years since the Australian federal and state governments apologized for similar actions that were perpetrated with the support of governments at all levels, especially in the post World War II period.
