June is Pride month.
While there is a much greater acceptance of LGBTQ rights in North America, to the extent that Pride parades have become major corporate marketing/sponsorship opportunities, there has been a significant anti-trans backlash, particularly in the United States.
Two cases in point:
Dylan Mulvaney, a TikTok star who became famous sharing her transition journey on social media, posted a video Instagram showing a commemorative can featuring her image that Bud Light sent her to celebrate her "first year of womanhood".

This led to a huge backlash, with calls for a boycott of the brand. Sales of Budweiser dropped in the range of 20-25%, hence huge economic consequences to Anheuser-Busch from its marketing decision.<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGXQB6qnTuc>

Then, in the last week or so, Megyn Kelly posted a video: 'I'm done with preferred pronouns' explaining why she has turned on the trans community. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nryu3_wv3Y>

In order to have a meaningful discussion on the issues, it is helpful to read the articles, watch the videos and read some of the comments, many of which express strong anti-trans sentiments.
The following are a few discussion points:
1. How have attitudes towards transgender rights evolved over time?
2. What are some myths or misconceptions about transgender rights, and how can we address them?
3. Transgender rights v. women's rights
4. Transgender rights and sports
5. Transgender rights and language/grammar
6. Medical interventions for minors, including hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery - is this potential child abuse?
7. Why the recent backlash? Fear? Ignorance? Hatred?
8. Are some of the concerns valid?
9. What can or should corporations do when promoting transgender rights leads to boycotts and hurts their bottom line?
10. How much of the backlash is from the conservative Christian right or other faith-based positions?
11. What is or should the position on trans rights be from a humanist perspective?
