What Makes Us Human?
Presenter: Karl Iglesias
Ever wonder how most interpersonal conflicts could be avoided if we just saw each other as fellow human beings with shared traits—not as genders, races, political views, or other labels?
It sounds simple, but we’re all quick to judge. We put people in boxes and make snap assumptions, which often lead to tension, resentment, discrimination, and sometimes even worse, like hate and genocides.
But what if we could shift that? What if we focused more on what we all have in common?
The key question is what does it mean to be human at our core—beneath the layers of gender roles, societal expectations, and cultural programming? In a time when gender identity and expression are widely debated and evolving, it becomes even more important to zoom out and examine the universal traits that make us fundamentally human.
Questions for further exploration:
What are the core natural traits that define human beings beyond gender stereotypes?
Which traits are innate and which are the result of socialization and learning? (the good ol' Nature vs. Nurture debate)
To what extent do personality dimensions (like Five-Factor Model, Myers-Briggs, and the Enneagram) transcend gender differences?
Which preconceptions or stereotypes often cloud our view of what is truly common to all humans, and how can we move beyond them?
Let's discuss!
