[Prepared with assistance from AI]

Globally, evangelical Christianity has grown in recent decades, especially in Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia.  In the United States and much of Western Europe, evangelical movements have experienced slower growth, stagnation, or declines in some traditional measures such as church affiliation and attendance.   Politically and culturally, however, evangelical Christians—especially white evangelicals in the United States—have remained highly influential shaping debates over issues such as abortion, religious liberty, education, and family policy.

Discussion Questions

1.        What factors have contributed to the global growth of evangelical movements in recent decades?

2.        How have other religious groups responded to the expansion of evangelical Christianity?

3.        In what ways do evangelical movements influence politics and public policy, and how is this received by society?

4.        What are some positive social impacts (if any) associated with evangelical movements?

5.        What concerns or criticisms have been raised about their growth and influence?

6.        How do responses to evangelical movements differ between regions (e.g., North America vs. Africa or Asia)?

7.        Should governments regulate the influence of religious movements in public life? Why or why not?

8.        How can dialogue between evangelical groups and other communities be encouraged to promote mutual understanding?

9.        What role does media play in shaping public perception of evangelical movements?

10.      How might the growth of evangelical Christianity affect future cultural and religious landscapes?
